For our second (October) recruitment day we tried a new location: the cattle meadow adjacent to the iron bridge. This was to take advantage of the Dexters that looked on towards our gazebo.
During our recruitment conversations we were able to explain the value of the cattle conservation grazing to improve our wildflower meadows. This proved to be a key discussion point with the cows literally in the background: a demonstration of FoSL in action.
It was a very busy day with many folk stopping by to find out more about our charity. We signed-up 20 new members: again may I take this opportunity to welcome them to FoSL.
We also met Steve Clarke, the River Secretary from the North Harrow Waltonians Angling Society, (see left-hand side of photo below) and we hope to be doing some River Colne management works with them in the near future – more news soon.
Just by way of a reminder, we received £12,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund that was matched by FoSL to cover the costs of the three new cattle meadows fencing, padlocks and signage.
My special thanks go to all those FoSL volunteers* who helped to recruit new members: your time is very much appreciated.
* In no particular order: Susan Thomas, Nicola Pazdzierska, Eileen Petch, Alison Marriott, Nilesh Dodhia, Bob Sherren and Jack Westbrook. Steve Clarke on left-hand side of photo.
