On our walk we had both sunshine and showers but were fortunate enough to see good numbers of both butterflies and dragonflies. During the previous week the weather forecasts for the day had been looking pretty iffy. So we did pretty well in the end.
13 of us set out on our walk through the meadows and along part of Stockers
Lake and River Colne. Philip Gibb identified the butterflies and Christina
Bessant the dragonflies.
Butterflies seen: Red Admiral (5); Gatekeeper (6); Small White (6); Large
White (3); Comma (2); Meadow Brown (7); Speckled Wood (2); Peacock (2);
Small Heath (1); Skipper- unsure which type (1). Also, Philip saw a Silver
Washed Fritillary at the meeting point before our walk began.
Dragonflies seen: Common Blue Damselflies (lots); Common/Ruddy Darter - 1
female/immature; Banded Demoiselle - 1 male, 1 female; Migrant hawkers (2).
The four photos included in this report were all taken by Mike who was on the walk with us. Our thanks to him.
