Land Appeal - nearly there!
This year's appeal for the acquisition of a piece of river bank has gone extremely well, thanks to our splendid members. As at October 27th 2013 we have just another £700 to go. It's not too late to make a contribution. It's never too late!
School Pupils make Signs for FoSL
Pupils of St Joan of Arc School, Rickmansworth, have made some attractive carved wooden signs for use identifying hides and other viewpoints around Stocker’s lake. For further information see this June 2013 illustrated article from the Watford Observer. The signs have since been put in place around the lake.
FoSL to become Landowner
At our AGM in March 2013 our Chairman, Ian Watson, announced that FoSL was negotiating to buy a 350ft stretch of the Colne River bank. The stretch concerned is north of Springwell Lane, opposite the car repair workshop, on the west bank leading up to the wooden footbridge over the river. The area concerned is highlighted in red on the map below
We’ve now begun laying the hedge that we planted in 2005, with guidance from Rob Hopkins of Herts & Middlesex Wildlife Trust. We have layered nearly half of the hedge along the path leading from the Uxbridge Road river bridge. We shall do the other half next year. The Trust was represented by its “green team” of Michael, Steve and Colin, as well as Rob. FoSL was represented by Christine Crowther, Dawn Goodair, Tony Lee, ‘Mitch’ and Ian Watson. The work took place on Tuesdays 19th and 26th February 2013.
